Cost of Living Biting Hard Across South Glasgow Suburbs
Reform UK's Kim Schmullian has reported that cost of living concerns are dominating her conversations with voters across the Glasgow Cathcart constituency, as families face sustained pressure from rising energy bills, food costs, council tax, and mortgage rates.
Having spent several weeks over the festive period canvassing across Kings Park, Simshill, Cathcart, and Croftfoot, Schmullian says the financial anxiety she encountered is palpable — even in an area known for its relative prosperity.
Schmullian said: "I spoke to families who consider themselves comfortably middle class and yet they are genuinely worried about paying bills at the end of the month. When that kind of anxiety exists in places like Kings Park and Cathcart, you know the cost of living crisis has reached every corner of society."
She is calling for the Scottish Government to use its powers to provide meaningful relief to households, including through council tax reform, targeted energy bill support, and reducing the burden of the National Care Service proposals that threaten further tax rises.
"Hard-working families across this constituency deserve a break. Reform UK will fight every day at Holyrood to reduce the burden on the people of south Glasgow," she said.
