Mount Florida Deserves a Fit-for-Purpose Community Hub
Reform UK's Kim Schmullian has called on Glasgow City Council to invest in improved community facilities in Mount Florida, arguing that the neighbourhood — home to Hampden Park and thousands of residents — deserves a modern, well-equipped community hub to support local groups and activities.
Mount Florida is a vibrant residential and cultural community, home to Scotland's national stadium and a busy local high street. However, Schmullian has been told by local residents that the area's community facilities are in need of upgrade and modernisation.
Schmullian said: "Mount Florida is a community that punches above its weight — from hosting international football matches at Hampden to its thriving independent businesses. It deserves community facilities to match that ambition. Better meeting spaces, youth facilities, and accessible community services would make a real difference to local people."
She is urging Glasgow City Council and the Scottish Government to prioritise community asset investment in Mount Florida as part of wider south Glasgow regeneration planning.
"Strong communities need strong facilities. Reform UK will advocate for the investment in local infrastructure that communities like Mount Florida deserve," she said.
