O'Hagan Calls for Smarter Crime Prevention in South Glasgow

Reform UK's Kim Schmullian has called for a smarter, more visible approach to crime prevention across the Glasgow Cathcart constituency, responding to constituent concerns about antisocial behaviour and low-level crime in some local areas.

While Glasgow Cathcart enjoys lower crime rates than many other parts of the city, Schmullian says residents have raised concerns about antisocial behaviour in parks, on local high streets, and in residential streets — particularly during evenings and weekends.

Schmullian said: "Even in areas like Burnside and Cathcart, where crime is relatively low compared to some parts of Glasgow, residents still deserve to feel safe in their own community. When people are worried about antisocial behaviour in their local park or on their street, that is something that must be taken seriously."

She is calling for more community police officers assigned to local neighbourhoods, better street lighting in parks and public spaces, and a stronger and more consistent response from the justice system to repeat offenders.

"Prevention works best when the police are a visible, trusted presence in the community. Reform UK will fight for the resources Police Scotland needs to keep people safe across south Glasgow," she said.
